1474: Followup to Types of Utterances Dec 25, 2018
In the most recent video, all of the examples of speech were
either in the second person, or said as imperatives, but not all examples
needed to be. For instance, some of the examples for declaratives were ‘you’re
fired’ and ‘welcome inside’, but there are plenty of ways to use declarations without
an interlocutor, such as ‘I christen this ship X’ or even just ‘WARNING’. These
speech acts apply to any type of speech.
